How to rank #1 in AI | The Ultimate Guide

Watch: full episode.

Marina Mogilko uses Silicon Valley Girl as a practical GEO experiment: despite a large audience and high-profile guests, the podcast was barely appearing in recommendations from ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity. Her five-step fix shows that AI visibility depends less on popularity than on whether AI can read your content, understand who you are, see consistent signals across the web, connect your content to real questions, and verify those signals through indexing. The practical lesson is to optimise for how AI understands and retrieves you, not just how Google ranks a page.

  • Start by asking AI why it cannot find or recommend you. Mogilko’s team used AI itself to audit the site and discovered basic visibility problems, including important content that was difficult for AI systems to access.
  • Make the useful content directly readable. Each podcast episode was given its own crawlable page with transcripts and summaries in plain text, turning material previously hidden behind JavaScript into information AI systems could retrieve and quote.
  • Make sure AI understands what you actually are. Incorrect or outdated descriptions in sources such as Wikidata can cause a podcast, person, or business to be placed in the wrong category even when plenty of information about it exists online.
  • Repeat a clear, consistent identity across the web. Website copy, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, bios, and other public profiles should reinforce the same description so AI systems encounter corroborating signals rather than conflicting versions of the brand.
  • Optimise for the questions you want AI to answer—and measure whether you appear. GEO shifts the target from ranking for keywords to being cited or recommended in generated answers, so titles, indexing, and visibility tracking should be built around real user questions.
